La Cala de Mijas is one of the original fishing villages situated on the Costa del Sol, in the province of Malaga. A charming village with a restored Moorish tower, a friendly village atmosphere and lots of appeal.
Located between the towns of Fuengirola and Marbella, close to popular urbanization of Calahonda, La Cala de Mijas is a very popular town with many good restaurants, shops, chemist and beach-front bars. Malaga International Airport is just about 20 minutes drive away.
La Cala de Mijas is an excellent all-round holiday destination. It enjoys a village feel, with excellent amenities, a long stretch of golden sandy beach and heaps of restaurants, bars and beach cafes to choose from. There is a popular children’s park in La Cala, with a little cafe where parents can sit back and relax, while children play. During the summer months, the park often organizes fun activities such as face painting, games and bouncy castles. There is a large market held every Saturday in the
fairground and throughout July and August there is a beachside market. During a week in August, a Medieval Market is held in the main square with food, music, artisan stalls and children’s activities.
La Cala de Mijas might be small, but it is packed with dining out choices. From typically Spanish ‘Menu del Dia’ restaurants, seafood, a Goan Indian Restaurant, British, Thai and a good old Irish pub. Spoilt for choice you will be and if not then hop in the car and pop to Fuengirola, where the choice is even greater.
La Cala Golf, Santana Golf, El Chapparral and Mijas Golf are all located within the vicinity and offer excellent conditions for a round or two of golf.
La Cala de Mijas, as with all of the Costa del Sol and Malaga region, enjoys a sub-tropical Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and warm winters. Cooling breezes from the sea make the summer heat manageable, temperatures are an average of 32 ºC in summer.
